We’re delighted that CT Joinery’s commitment to the highest standards and craftsmanship were recently recognised by the New Zealand Joinery Manufacturers Federation. They awarded this stunning timber front door project the prize for Best in Region Award Auckland 2022.

To replace two existing painted, flat panel front doors with an eye-catching, solid timber, double entrance door in keeping with the grandeur of the home.

• 2 new door leaves manufactured in Malaysian Kauri
• To be hung within the existing Kauri door frame and be in keeping with internal timber furniture
• A low res image found through a google search was supplied by the clients

• Drawing the detailed pattern to work out where each moulding would start and finish
• The painstaking process of accurately cutting each individual piece of Kauri to fix to the leaves

We began by constructing two single panel Kauri door leaves.We then drew the detailed pattern directly onto the leaves.
Each piece was cut and fixed in place, building the design up in layers. Precision and accuracy was essential as any slight discrepancy would prevent the detailed lines from meeting correctly.
Raven drop down seals were fitted to the bottom of the leaves to improve weather tightness. The doors were then sent to a painter for finishing before being hung in the existing frame on site.

Our team love a challenge and this complex joinery project called upon the team’s 250 years of collective experience to produce a bespoke solution, which won a best compliance award at the recent Master Joiners Awards 2022.

A statement slider to open up the entire back of the home, giving unprecedented indoor, outdoor flow to the private outside living space.

• 12.2 metre wide sliding door
• 8 metre clear walk through
• 3 metre high slider
• Stacked over the exterior cladding
• Flooring to run over the sill
• Hidden electronic blind recessed into the head

• A sliding door of this size and scale could potentially bow, or twist, hindering the efficiency of the sliding movement
• Machining, handling and installing the vast size and weight of such an enormous slider

We manufactured a set of 2.1m x 3m door panels in layered plywood, vacuum pressed straight for rigidity and clad with Red Cedar for additional stability. 200kg of glass added significantly to the overall weight. 

The 12.2 metre long hardwood sills were constructed from 12 separate pieces of Rosewood. A double carriage roller system with a 400kg rating was installed into the sill.

Factory manufacture required 24.5 metres of space with a 6 man lifting team. We disassembled our CNC cage system to develop space to machine from one side of the factory wall to the other.

Installation of the finished slider involved a carefully choreographed team of installers.
